Anthony Davis MVP?

After watching the NBA playoffs during the Spring one of the most astonishing things I noticed was how the New Orleans Pelicans snuck in the playoffs as the 8th seed and finished the season with a better record than the Oklahoma City Thunder. Even though OKC faced numerous disappointing injuries they are usually always expected to make the playoffs and it was surprising that they didn’t.

Although the Pelicans were swept in the first round, Anthony Davis definitely showed true promise during the series averaging 31.5 points. Davis definitely impressed a lot of folks and was even offered $145 million contract extension for 5 years over the offseason, which is the wealthiest contract in NBA history!

For those that don’t know about Anthony Davis, he will definitely become a household name soon. Anthony Davis came straight out of Chicago Perspectives Charter School and has been dominant in every league he has played in. On top of that, he has consistently improved each year. If you read the article on this website I wrote on him a long time ago you can see that he was only averaging 20.8 points per game, but now he is averaging 24.4 points per game.

This season Davis will take off and wake up everyone who has been sleeping on his game. Unfortunately the Pelicans don’t get as much national TV airtime as the Bulls, Warriors, or Cavs. But if you get the chance to see him play, his game will definitely blow you away.

The NBA MVP race is always a tough battle and a lot of politics go into the decision but I predict that Anthony Davis could shock the world and win the Most Valuable Player award. Of course it’s always difficult to make predictions during the off-season. Its not going to be an easy challenge because he will have to beat off previous winner Stephen Curry, Lebron James, and James Harden. Plus Kevin Durant is coming back off an injury and it is always interesting to see how he plays with Westbrook. Additionally, you can never forget about players like Derrick Rose and Kobe Bryant. My predictions have Davis averaging 27.8 points per game, 11.2 rebounds (4.0 offensive rebounds), 3.0 blocks, and 2.0 steals. His team will also win about 50 games and they will be 5th in the Western Conference. I’m excited to see how he will play this season.
